“Tell us when you found out,” I said.
“About two months ago.”
Emma frowned.
“Two months?”
“Remember when you showed me pictures from your eighth birthday?”
“The ones from Mom’s old album?”
He nodded.
“There was a photograph of you with your parents. I recognized your mom.”
“How?” Emma asked.
“My mother kept an old newspaper photograph of her.”
I remembered appearing in a local article about a school fundraiser. My name had been printed under the picture.
“Did you ask Rebecca about it?” I asked.
“Yes.”
“What did she tell you?”
Tyler hesitated.
“She said there’d been a disagreement between your families.”
“A disagreement?”
“That’s what she called it.”
“Did she tell you she had an affair with my husband?”
He nodded and said, “Eventually.”
Emma stood.
“So you’ve known for two months that your mom was involved in my parents’ divorce?”
“Yes.”
“And you never told me?”
“I didn’t know how.”
