Emma stared at me.
“What?”
“Fifteen years ago. Before we separated.”
She knew her father had been unfaithful.
I’d explained that when she was old enough to understand.
But I’d never told her Rebecca’s name.
Emma pulled her hands away.
“That doesn’t mean Tyler did anything wrong.”
“I know, but…”
“Then why are you telling me to break up with him?”
Before I could answer, Tyler appeared in the doorway.
His makeup was gone.
He looked frightened, but not confused.
“I think we should talk,” he said.
Something about his reaction made me pause.
“Tyler, did you know who I was before tonight?”
He hesitated.
Emma turned toward him.
“Tyler?”
He looked down.
“I found out a while ago.”
My daughter went still.
“What does that mean?”
“Can we sit down?”
We moved into the living room.
My hands were shaking, but I knew I needed answers before making another accusation.
