Shopper Berated a Supermarket Employee with Down Syndrome – She Thought No One Would Defend Him, but She Was Wrong

“Excuse me,” I said. “Are you the manager?”

“I’m Alaric. What’s going on?”

“There’s been an accident in the beverage aisle. A customer is blaming one of your employees, but my daughter saw what really happened.”

His expression grew serious.

“Is anyone hurt?”

“Not that I saw. But your employee is being verbally abused.”

“Which employee?”

I described the young man.

“Bryan?” Alaric asked.

“I don’t know his name.”

“Young man with glasses? Blue work shirt?”

“Yes.”

Something changed in his face.

“Did Bryan say he caused the accident?”

“He apologized. But my daughter saw the woman push his cart.”

Alaric looked at Sasha.

“You saw that happen?”

She nodded.

“He told the lady to wait. She wouldn’t listen.”

Alaric thanked her, then asked a nearby employee to bring a cleanup kit and ensured customers stayed away from the broken glass.

“Please come with me,” he said.

As we approached the aisle, I heard the woman complaining again.
