I stared at Diane.
“You didn’t even know whether the name was authorized?”
“No.”
“So, what was your plan?”
“I thought if I got Oliver home, Jason could take you to the appointment and finally tell you.”
“You thought helping him deceive me would fix his deception?”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“He’s my son.”
I stared at her.
“Every time you crossed a line, Jason told me, ‘She’s his grandmother.’ Now you’re standing here telling me, ‘He’s my son.’ Do either of you hear yourselves?”
Neither of them answered.
“Being family doesn’t give either of you permission to make decisions for me.”
Diane lowered her eyes.
