Across the front were the words:
“MY WIFE SURVIVED THE BUZZKILL INCIDENT I CAUSED.”
Tyler unfolded it.
My husband stared at it.
Then he looked at me.
“My mother is never going to let this go, is she?”
I grinned.
“Not a chance.”
He put on the shirt.
My husband stared.
I took a picture, and with his permission, sent it to Diane.
My MIL replied almost immediately.
“FINALLY! A JOKE WORTH LAUGHING AT!”
Tyler read the message and started laughing.
I laughed with him.
I took a picture.
My birthday hadn’t gone how I’d hoped. But I learned something important.
I didn’t need to change my body to deserve kindness.
And Tyler learned that being funny wasn’t about doing it at someone else’s expense.
Sometimes, the best joke was the one that reminded you to treat people better.
Especially those you love.
