“What happened?”
“Some customers saw your shirt design.”
“And?”
“They want to buy it.”
I blinked.
“Don’t panic.”
“Why?”
“Apparently, lots of women have been called buzzkills for refusing to laugh at stupid jokes.”
My sister explained that she’d displayed one sample in her shop.
A customer asked about it.
Lauren hadn’t mentioned my name or my marriage. She’d only explained that the slogan came from a bad joke between a couple.
A customer asked about it.
By closing time, several customers had requested shirts.
“Emily, I won’t sell them unless you’re comfortable,” she said.
I considered it.
The shirt wasn’t really about Tyler anymore.
It was about refusing to smile while someone treated you badly.
I considered it.
“Go ahead,” I said. “Just keep my personal story private.”
“Deal!”
Lauren offered me a small share of the profits for helping with the design.
I wasn’t expecting much.
But by the weekend, she’d sold more shirts than she’d anticipated!
