An idea began forming.
“Agreed.”
After she left, I found Noah and Ben waiting in the living room.
“Did she bring money for Grandpa?” Ben asked.
“She offered. I said no.”
“Emma, we need it,” Noah protested.
It’s time he took responsibility.
“Richard owes it, not Vanessa. And Michael’s lending us a car until this is settled.”
“Then take my bike savings.”
“Absolutely not. You deserve that bike.”
Ben squeezed my hand. “Are we selling Grandpa?”
“No, sweetheart. We’ll get him fixed.”
Emma, we need it.
Noah studied me. “You’ve got a plan, haven’t you?”
“I’ve figured out that staying quiet hasn’t protected us.”
“Did Michael agree to testify?” Noah asked.
“Yes.”
“And the video?”
We’ll get him fixed.
“Backed up. I’ve got the estimate and compensation agreement, too.”
Noah examined my folder. “You’re preparing like it’s a school presentation.”
“A very expensive presentation.”
“Then make sure you get an A.”
