“Especially then.”
Bryan smiled faintly.
“Okay.”
A cashier approached to tell Alaric that Nora was still waiting near the front, demanding an explanation.
Alaric stood.
“Then let’s finish this.”
I asked Sasha to stay beside me as we followed him.
Nora was pacing near the checkout lanes.
When she saw us, she pointed at Bryan.
“Well? Are you finally going to do something about him?”
Alaric faced her calmly.
“I’ve reviewed the recording. Bryan asked you to wait, and you pushed his cart. Your action caused the bottles to fall.”
Nora’s mouth opened.
“I barely touched it!”
“Nevertheless, you pushed it.”
“The cart shouldn’t have been there!”
“It was part of his work, and he was moving it safely until you interfered.”
She looked at me.
“This is ridiculous. You’re all making me sound like some kind of monster.”
“Nobody is calling you a monster,” I said. “We’re asking you to tell the truth.”
