“Wrecked.” He kissed the top of my head as he passed. “Best weekend yet. That kid is unreal.”
Who was sleeping next to me?
I watched him open the fridge. I watched his easy shoulders, his wedding ring catching the kitchen light.
“When’s the next trip?” I asked.
“Two Fridays.”
“Good,” I said softly. “That’s good.”
He drive straight toward the city.
That night I lay beside him and listened to him breathe. In two weeks, I would follow him.
I had no idea who was sleeping next to me.

Two Fridays later, I trailed Greg’s SUV at a careful distance, my hands damp on the steering wheel. He pulled into the family campground exactly where he said he would. I watched Toby race toward Miss Jenny and a cluster of children near the activity cabin.
A minute later, I recognized my mother-in-law Marlene’s car pulling into the campground.
