My Husband Begged Me to Wear His New Necklace—But an Old Woman Told Me to Put It in Water First

The financial investigation revealed a second problem. Julian had provided Celeste with documents that falsely represented Morgan’s willingness to sell the cottage. He had used the expected proceeds to persuade her to advance money, even though Morgan had never authorized the sale.

The investigator told Morgan that charging decisions belonged to prosecutors and that the evidence would have to be assessed under the applicable law. He did not promise an arrest or a particular outcome. Morgan appreciated that, too. She was tired of people promising her certainty they couldn’t deliver.

Julian eventually admitted through his attorney that he had arranged the pendant and hidden its modification. He claimed he wanted to make Morgan uncomfortable enough to miss work and become more dependent on him, believing she would then agree to sell the cottage. Morgan didn’t know whether that explanation was complete. She knew it was an admission of cruelty.

When she heard it, she sat motionless for a long time.
