My Husband Begged Me to Wear His New Necklace—But an Old Woman Told Me to Put It in Water First

It was a long list of ordinary tasks. Morgan found comfort in each completed one.

For years, Julian’s emergencies had dictated the shape of her days. Now her days belonged to her again.

PART 7 — THE TRUTH IN THE REPORT

The full laboratory report arrived weeks later. The investigator met with Morgan and Priya to explain what it did and did not establish.

The pendant’s hidden compartment had contained a substance capable of causing skin irritation. Residue and the design of the cavity supported the conclusion that the necklace had been deliberately altered, but the testing did not establish that wearing it would have killed Morgan. The cloudy blue water had been a warning sign, not a magical diagnostic test.

Morgan was grateful for that clarity. The truth was frightening enough without exaggeration.

Investigators had also obtained business records showing that Julian ordered the modified pendant under the false name and discussed its concealed compartment. The jewelry shop owner confirmed that Evelyn had refused the original request; another worker had later accepted a less explicit modification order. The paper trail contradicted Julian’s claim that the necklace was an ordinary anniversary gift.
