She held it up with a faint smile.
“Hard to believe everything changed because of makeup remover.”
“The makeup didn’t cause what happened,” I said.
“No,” she replied. “It just meant we finally saw what was there.”
She carried the last box into the closet, then returned and hugged me.
“Thanks for telling me the truth, Mom. Even though it was hard.”
I held her close.
“I’ll always try to.”
