The current pushed against her.
She nearly fell.
Then she heard a child’s voice.
“HELP!”
A little girl was trapped on a rock in the middle of the river.
“Don’t be afraid!” Mama Uganda shouted. “I’m coming!”
Slowly, she moved through the dangerous water.
Finally, she reached the girl.
“Hold my hand.”
The girl grabbed her hand.
Together, they made their way back.
The villagers pulled them to safety.
Everyone cheered.
But Mama Uganda did not smile.
Something was wrong.
The Two Missing Children
The next morning, the rain had stopped.
The village was quiet.
The villagers began checking on their families.
Suddenly, a woman screamed:
“My children! Where are my children?”
Her two children, David and Sarah, were missing.
The children had disappeared during the storm.
Everyone was terrified.
Nobody wanted to enter the forest.
The trees were broken, the ground was muddy, and dangerous animals could be hiding among the shadows.
But Mama Uganda stood up.
“I will find them.”
Three young men followed her.
Together, they entered the forest.
They walked for hours.
“David!”
“Sarah!”
Nothing.
The forest became darker.
The sun was disappearing.
Then Mama Uganda stopped.
“Wait.”
Everyone became silent.
They heard a tiny voice.
“Help…”
They followed the sound.
Behind two enormous rocks, they discovered a small cave.
Inside were David and Sarah.
Cold.
Hungry.
Terrified.
But alive.
Mama Uganda hugged them.
“You are safe now.”
As they walked back toward the village, David suddenly grabbed Mama Uganda’s hand.
“Mama…”
“What is it?”
“We saw something.”
“What did you see?”
“A light.”
“Where?”
David pointed toward the mountains.
“Near the old mountain.”
Mama Uganda stopped walking.
Her face changed.
She knew exactly what he meant.
The old mountain had been abandoned for decades.
And hidden inside it was an old mine that nobody was allowed to enter.
The Secret
The next morning, Mama Uganda gathered the village elders.
“We need to go to the mountain.”
Some villagers were afraid.
Others refused.
But eventually, a small group followed her.
They walked for hours until they reached the abandoned mine.
The entrance was covered with vines and broken branches.
Mama Uganda stepped closer.
Then she noticed something on the ground.
Fresh footprints.
Someone had been there recently.
“Look!” one of the villagers shouted.
Near the entrance were several large wooden boxes.
They opened them carefully.
Inside were seeds.
Tools.
Food.
And a small piece of paper.
