The resemblance between Adrian and that man was impossible to ignore.
On the back of the photograph, someone had written:
Your husband destroyed my family. Now you will pay his debt.
I stared at the words until they blurred.
Thomas had been a quiet accountant. He paid bills early, avoided arguments, and never spoke about his work. I had believed I knew everything about him.
Suddenly, I was no longer sure I had known him at all.
My phone rang.
The number was hidden.
“Did you find the envelope?” Adrian asked.
“Who was the man in the photograph?”
“My father.”
“What did Thomas do to him?”
Adrian laughed bitterly.
“He stole evidence, gave it to the police, and watched my father go to prison.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“You will.”
He told me to bring the money to an abandoned warehouse on the edge of the city. If I contacted the police, he would release the photographs.
