I Almost Threw Up on the Plane When the Obese Woman Sitting Behind Me Put Her Dirty, Smelly Bare Foot Right on My Armrest. When I Asked Her to Move It, She Laughed and Said, “My Feet Need Air. If You Don’t Like It, Sit Somewhere Else.” I’d Never Seen Such Shameless Behavior. I Decided to Teach Her a Lesson, and Soon the Entire Plane Was Laughing at Her. But When I Discovered Who That Woman Really Was and Where She Was Flying, I Wished I’d Never Done It…

“WELCOME, LINDA. THANK YOU FOR EMILY.”

Linda stopped walking.

Her knees began to tremble.

Rachel noticed us and hurried toward Linda.

“Are you Linda?”

Linda could only nod.

Rachel gently wrapped her arms around her.

“I’ve waited so long for this day.”

Linda was sobbing.

Then Rachel held out the little girl to her.

“This is Emily.

I want her to grow up knowing about the woman whose daughter gave us this chance.”

Linda took the baby into her arms.

The little girl reached out, touched Linda’s cheek, and smiled.

And in that moment, I watched genuine happiness appear on the face of a woman who seemed to have forgotten how to feel joy for so many years.

Three months later, Linda sent me a photograph.

She was sitting on a park bench, with Rachel and little Emily beside her.

Beneath the photograph, she had written:

“Mary,

do you remember our argument on the airplane? Since that day, I’ve started taking better care of myself. Now I go for walks every day, meet people, and no longer hide from the world. You reminded me that I can still change.”
