The preference for Miley Cyrus kept appearing, with another commenter saying, “Miley should have sang jolene [sic].” A particularly unhappy viewer added, “She literally RUINED that song 🤬, I know they could have gotten someone better than her 😱 [sic].”
Another person echoed the earlier wish: “I was hoping Miley would sing this one. Would have been much better.” Elsewhere, a blunt verdict read, “It was not good.”
One longer response brought up Miley’s earlier rendition, saying, “Her God Daughter would have done such Justice to this song . Her ( backyard session ) was phenomenal especially with that powerful ‘husky’ vocals she inherited , first time hearing her perform it Blew Me Away lol .. 🥳 [sic].”
Not every response was against Ella. One read, “Miley should have sang this, I really was impressed with the young lady who did it [sic].”
The comments were sharp, especially for a singer who had spoken so gratefully about being invited. But the complaint about the song sounding too sultry raised an interesting question about “Jolene” itself: how did Dolly turn a woman’s insecurity into something listeners still feel so fiercely?
