“I’ve seen them hugging.”
“That doesn’t prove anything.”
“I know. But I’ve seen them hugging. Once, she started crying, and he held her hand until she calmed down.”
Brooke glanced at the photographs. “I’m sorry, but they certainly don’t act like two people who have nothing to hide.”
“Why would you even get involved?”
“Because I heard him talking to you on the phone once. He said he was working late, but he was sitting right there with her.”
“I’m sorry.”
My throat tightened.
“And how did you find my address?”
Brooke admitted she’d looked it up in the restaurant’s reservation system.
“That’s a terrible invasion of privacy!”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
There had to be a reasonable explanation.
“Have you actually seen them kiss?”
“Only on the cheek.”
I rubbed my forehead. There could be an innocent explanation for all this.
Brooke apologized again and handed me her number before leaving.
