“You can’t just show up!”
“How do you know my husband?”
Her lips trembled.
“Please. Just look at this first.”
She opened her purse and pulled out several photographs.
In the first, Nathan stood outside a hotel, embracing a beautiful woman. In another, he handed her an envelope.
“That’s impossible…”
The third showed the woman kissing his cheek.
“No… That’s impossible…” I whispered.
The stranger burst into tears.
“Oh my God… I had no idea you knew absolutely nothing. Hasn’t he told you anything?!”
I wanted to tell her she was mistaken.
She swallowed nervously.
But the woman in those photographs looked exactly like Nathan’s first wife.
“Who are you?” I demanded. “And where did you get these pictures?”
“My name’s Brooke. I work as a hostess at a hotel restaurant downtown. You used to come here regularly.”
She swallowed nervously.
“Your husband has been coming there with that woman for three months. They always sit at the same corner table. Sometimes they stay for hours.”
