Someone needs to make decisions.
“You remembered that remarkably quickly.”
He slammed the paper down. “Who helped you do this?”
“Someone who actually cares about the girls.”
At that moment, Margaret entered from the hallway.
“Hello, Mark.”
You don’t get access by reconciling with me.
He jumped to his feet. “Mom? What are you doing here?”
“I invited her,” I said.
He stared between us.
“You’ve been plotting against me!”
Margaret shook her head. “Your father begged you to make things right with those girls. You refused.”
I invited her.
“He spent my whole life demanding a son!”
“And when he finally understood what that had done to you, he tried to make things right,” Margaret said.
“What do you mean?”
“You had three daughters, Mark. He wanted them to have a future.”
“Dad manipulated everyone!”
Your father begged you to make things right.
“No. You made his decision very easy.”
