The driver handed me a large white box.
“Congratulations on the new arrivals,” he said, smiling.
“Thank you,” I said, surprised. “Who sent it?”
He checked his screen. “Doesn’t say. Just a delivery request.”
But when I opened it, my excitement vanished.
Inside were two tiny baby blankets. Both completely black.
There were no toys or flowers. Just two identical black blankets, neatly folded.
There was also a small card.
It read, “For the girls. Just as promised.”
There was no signature.
I assumed someone had a strange sense of humor.
Then Mom walked into the kitchen.
“Who sent those?”
“I have no idea, Mom,” I said.
She stepped closer, and the moment she saw the blankets, I watched a strange expression take over her face. It felt like she had seen those blankets before.
Before I could ask anything, she picked one up with trembling hands and burst into tears.
