Glenn paused the video.
“She told them to do it.”
I stared at the frozen image.
Marie sat on my new lounge chair, sunglasses on, one foot resting on our cooler.
“She told them to do it.”
Then Glenn pressed play.
Marie finished her soda. Without even looking, she threw the can over her shoulder. It landed in the shallow end.
That was the moment I stopped being angry.
Anger is noisy.
What I felt became organized.
I called her and put the call on speaker.
Anger is noisy.
Marie answered cheerfully.
“How was Germany?”
“Why is our pool full of garbage, Marie?”
There was a pause. Then she laughed.
“Oh, that!”
Glenn mouthed, “That?”
“Why is our pool full of garbage, Marie?”
“You held Tommy’s birthday party here without asking,” I said.
“Our yard is too small.”
“You had our key to feed Musk.”
“And I did feed him.”
