Look closely at a home like this and you don’t just see clothes on the couch, toys on the floor, dishes waiting to be washed, and books scattered across a table. You may also see evidence of a busy life.
There are clean clothes waiting to be folded. There are children’s toys that were played with. There are cups that were used. There are books that someone was reading. There are countless little tasks competing for attention.
A messy house can easily become something people judge. Guests may look around and wonder why everything isn’t perfectly organized. Social media can make the comparison even worse, with photographs of spotless kitchens, perfectly arranged living rooms, organized closets and homes that appear ready for a magazine cover at every moment.
But real homes are not always like that.
Real homes are lived in.
Sometimes the person responsible for the household simply runs out of time, energy or both. Household chores are rarely finished permanently. Laundry comes back. Dishes return to the sink. Floors get dirty again. Toys come out again. Clutter can accumulate faster than one person can realistically manage.
