Her words sent a chill through me.
“Who?”
Marianne glanced toward Cordelia, who stood several feet away, watching us with open hostility.
“I don’t know exactly who intercepted the letters,” she said. “I do know that your lawyer told me you wanted no contact. He said you had made your decision and would not change it.”

“My lawyer said that?”
“He also told me that if I tried to contact you again, your family would accuse me of harassment and use the courts to make my life miserable.”
I stared at her.
I remembered my lawyer.
Richard Cole had worked for my family for decades.
He was efficient, discreet, and fiercely loyal to my father.
I had trusted him to handle the divorce.
I had never asked what happened to Marianne afterward.
“Did you keep copies?” I asked.
“Of the letters? Yes.”
“Do you still have them?”
