The Secret Behind Vanessa’s Three Heirs14-008 – Foodie

It stated that the clinic had completed an internal review concerning the embryo transfer performed two years earlier in Vanessa Blake’s name.

Due to an error in the laboratory identification process, the clinic had determined that the embryos transferred into Vanessa’s uterus had not been created from the genetic material she had been told they contained.

The review was ongoing.

The clinic requested an urgent confidential meeting with Vanessa, the intended genetic parents, and any legal representatives involved.

At the bottom of the letter, beneath the careful language, was one sentence that made my hands go cold.

Preliminary records indicate that the sperm source associated with the embryos was not the anonymous donor listed in the treatment file.

Julian looked at me.

“What does that mean?”

Before I could answer, a phone began ringing.

It was Charles’s.

He glanced at the screen.

The call was from the fertility clinic.

Then another phone rang.

This one belonged to the attorney.

And from somewhere beyond the guesthouse, near the darkening gardens, Vanessa began to scream—not in anger, but in grief.

A grief so raw that every adult in the room went still.

The attorney answered his call first.

“Hello?”

He listened.

His face lost all color.

“What?” he whispered.

Julian stepped toward him.

“What did they say?”

The attorney lowered the phone slowly.

“The clinic has identified the sperm source.”

No one breathed.

He looked directly at Julian.

“It belongs to someone in the Whitmore family.”

PART 3

The attorney lowered the phone slowly.

“The clinic has identified the sperm source.”

No one breathed.

He looked directly at Julian.

“It belongs to someone in the Whitmore family.”

Julian’s face tightened.

“Who?”

The attorney glanced at the report in his hand.

“Daniel Whitmore.”

Charles went completely still.

Margaret’s fingers rose to her lips.

I searched their faces, trying to understand the name. Daniel had never been mentioned during the years I spent with Julian. Not at family dinners, not during holidays, not in the countless stories Margaret had told me about Julian’s childhood.

“Who is Daniel?” I asked.

Charles closed his eyes briefly.

“My son.”
