That silence told me everything.

Ryan didn’t know.

He didn’t know Alexander could move.

And Alexander wanted it to stay that way.

After Ryan left, I closed the door again.

“You need to tell the police.”

Alexander shook his head.

“I don’t have proof.”

“You have me.”

He looked surprised.

“You would risk your job?”

I thought about it.

A month earlier, I had lost my marriage.

I had lost the home I spent years building.

I had watched people I loved choose someone else over me.

But standing there, looking at Alexander, I realized something.

I wasn’t the same woman who walked out of my old house with two suitcases.

That woman thought losing everything meant she was powerless.

This woman knew exactly what she was capable of.

“I didn’t come here just for the money,” I said.

Alexander studied my face.
