PART 2: THE SECRE…A….ALEXANDER WHITMORE HID FROM HIS…

I stepped away from the bed.

“Are you saying someone is trying to keep you sick?”

Alexander looked at me for several seconds.

Then he said something I would never forget.

“I’m saying someone is making sure I never become strong enough to take back my company.”

The room suddenly felt smaller.

I had walked into that mansion thinking I was helping a man recover.

I didn’t realize I had entered a battle for control.

Alexander told me everything.

Eight months earlier, he had been driving home after a late business meeting when another car crashed into him.

The doctors said his spinal injury was severe.

They didn’t know if he would ever walk again.

At first, his family acted devastated.

His mother cried every day.

His brother Ryan stayed by his hospital bed.

Vanessa brought him homemade meals.

They looked like the perfect family.

But after he returned home, things slowly changed.

Ryan started making decisions for him.

First, it was small things.

“Alex, you should rest. I’ll handle the company calls.”

Then bigger things.

“Alex, you don’t need to attend board meetings. Your condition will make investors nervous.”

Then one day, Ryan brought documents.

“Just temporary paperwork,” he said.

“Until you recover.”

Alexander signed nothing.

That was when the family changed.

“They stopped treating me like a brother,” he whispered.

“They started treating me like a problem that needed to be managed.”

I felt a cold feeling in my chest.

“Why didn’t you tell anyone?”

He laughed quietly, but there was no happiness in it.

“Because everyone I trusted was already working for them.”

I thought about my own divorce.

About how I had spent years believing I was loved.

How easily people could hide their true intentions behind familiar faces.

Maybe that’s why I understood Alexander.
