On the Day I Graduated from College, My Father Called Me Into His Bedroom and Said, “Whatever Happens Next, Your Mother Must Never Know. You’re 18 Now. It’s Time.” I Tried to Leave, but He Rushed to the Door and Locked It. What He Did Next Made Me Cry

“Then who died?”

My father pulled a small photograph from the bag.

In the picture were two newborn baby girls lying side by side.

My heart nearly stopped.

“Did you have twins?”

He nodded.

“Yes.”

I sank into the chair.

For eighteen years, my mother had never told me that I had a twin sister.

“Why didn’t you ever tell me?”

My father remained silent for a long time.

Then he took out another document.

“Because three months ago, I received a phone call. And I haven’t slept peacefully since.”

“What phone call?”

He handed me an envelope.

Inside were the results of a DNA test.

Two names.

Mine.

And that of a girl I had never heard of.

Sophia Miller.

At the bottom of the document, it stated that we were biological twin sisters.

I held my breath.

“Dad… does this mean…”

He whispered,

“Your sister is alive.”
