The moment he told me, an idea began forming in my mind.
What if Mason and I secretly booked tickets on his flight?
We could board without telling him, find seats toward the back of the aircraft, and wait until the plane landed before revealing ourselves. I imagined Tyler’s expression when he discovered that his wife and son had been sitting among his passengers the entire time.
Most importantly, I imagined Mason’s face.
He would finally get to experience something he had talked about for years. He would hear his father’s voice over the cabin speakers, feel the airplane take off, and know that the person flying him safely to Chicago was the same man who tucked him into bed every night.
I could already picture the excitement.
So, without saying a word to Tyler, I purchased two tickets for Mason and myself.
