I had expected laughter, hugs, and perhaps a few jokes about our secret mission.
I had not expected a serious announcement that would leave us wondering whether the entire cabin was about to hear something deeply personal.
And yet, there we were, sitting quietly near the back of the plane, waiting for the man we loved to finish speaking.
What I Learned From That Flight
Looking back, I realize how easily we can become attached to the stories we imagine for ourselves.
I had planned every detail of our surprise. I had bought the tickets, prepared Mason, avoided Tyler at the airport, and found seats where we thought we would remain unnoticed.
In my mind, the ending was already written.
Tyler would discover us, Mason would run into his arms when we landed, and we would laugh about the whole adventure over dinner.
But life doesn’t always follow the plans we make.
