My Daughter ‘Went to School’ Every Morning – Then Her Teacher Called and Said She’d Been Skipping for a Whole Week, So I Followed Her the Next Morning

He nodded.

“And you need to know that if she tells me something she’s afraid to tell you, I’m going to encourage her to talk to you. I’m not going to turn it into a secret between us.”

“Fair enough.”

I held out my hand.

He looked at it for a second before shaking it.

It wasn’t a romantic moment.

There was no sudden realization that we should have stayed married, no magical reconciliation, and no promise that we’d never disagree again.

We were simply two parents acknowledging that our daughter needed us to work together.

Sometimes, that is a more important kind of love.

Emily turned around.

“Are you two done discussing my entire life without me?”

Mark raised both hands.

“Your mother was just giving me a performance review.”

“How bad was it?”

“Terrible. Apparently, I need to improve my communication skills.”

Emily rolled her eyes.
