My Daughter ‘Went to School’ Every Morning – Then Her Teacher Called and Said She’d Been Skipping for a Whole Week, So I Followed Her the Next Morning

“We’ll work with the information available,” she said. “You don’t have to prove that you’re suffering by keeping every cruel message on your phone.”

I looked down at the table.

I had spent the entire morning angry about the lie.

Now I understood that the lie was only the visible part of a much bigger problem.

My daughter had been trying to survive something she didn’t know how to explain.

And she had been doing it almost entirely alone.

The meeting lasted more than an hour.

Before we left, the school agreed to begin investigating immediately, adjust Emily’s schedule where necessary, and arrange a meeting with us to review the support plan.

No one promised that the problem would disappear overnight.

I appreciated that.

Real life doesn’t work that way.

But for the first time in weeks, Emily had adults around her who were taking her seriously.
