Greg looked at the paper again.
Publicidad
Dinner had gone cold by then.
Finally, he said, “I’ll pay it.”
I shook my head.
“Only if you understand why.”
“Because I made a mess.”
“That’s part of it.”
He looked at Dan.
Publicidad
Dan said, “You didn’t ask before bringing people here.”
Greg nodded.
“And I left it for you guys.”
“Yes.”
He exhaled.
“Okay.”
Then he looked at me.
“I shouldn’t have left your place like that.”
I waited.
“And I shouldn’t have had people over without asking.”
That sounded different.
Publicidad
No joke.
No excuse.
I nodded.
“Thank you.”
He transferred the money before he left.
He didn’t pay every penny of the coffee machine replacement, because Dan found a discounted one and Greg paid what the repair would’ve cost.
That felt fair.
Publicidad
The cleaning and pest costs were covered.
More importantly, Greg finally seemed embarrassed.
Real embarrassment.
