“Emily, if you start getting tattoos, there won’t be any skin left!”
I would smile, but inside, his words hurt.
When I discovered I was pregnant, I cried tears of happiness.
But at the same time, I became afraid.
I imagined having a daughter who might one day stand in front of atime, I started crying.
For the first time in thirty-four years, I didn’t see the girl everyone had mocked.
I saw the woman I had dreamed of becoming when I was little.
But I had no idea how my family would react.
When I returned home, Michael was standing in the kitchen.
He looked at me and froze.
“Emily… what have you done?”
I tried to smile.
“I’ve finally done something I’ve wanted to do my entire life.”
His voice rose.
“You’re seven months pregnant! How could you make adecision
like this without telling me?”
