“Effective nine fifty-two this morning, Mr. Tennant is suspended from all duties pending termination review.”
“His ID is revoked.”
“His key card is revoked.”
“His access to company housing and company accounts is revoked.”
“Mr. Ridley.”
Ridley stepped forward and held out one enormous palm.
“Badge, sir.”
Dillon fumbled the lanyard from around his neck.
His hands were shaking so badly he dropped it, and it clattered on the polished floor with a small, ugly sound.
Nobody bent to pick it up.
“You can’t do this,” he said.
“You can’t.”
“I’m the father of those girls.”
“You can’t take my career, my pay, and my family.”
“You have a family?” said Natalia.
“You have a wife and children,” said Giselle, softly, with her hand over her mouth.
She was crying.
She wasn’t looking at him.
She was looking at me.
Dillon rounded on me one last time.
