I Thought a Young Man Was Helping My 83-Year-Old Neighbor – Until I Opened Her Bedroom Door

He sat on the edge of the chair near the window and rubbed both hands over his face.

“I told you this would happen,” he said to her.

“I couldn’t keep lying,” she replied.

I stared between them. “Lying about what?”

Neither answered.

I reached for the paper in Marjorie’s hand, but she hesitated before giving it to me.

It was a legal document.

At the top were the words: “Last Will and Testament.”

My stomach tightened.

Owen stood. “This is private.”

I turned the pages.

Marjorie’s name appeared throughout the document, along with Owen’s.

She had left him the house, her savings, and nearly everything she owned.

I looked at her in disbelief. “Did you sign this willingly?”

“Yes,” she said.

Owen closed his eyes.

That was not the answer I expected.

“Then why are you afraid of him?”

Marjorie lowered her gaze. “I am not afraid of Owen.”
