I tried to laugh.
“I just want all of this to be over.”
A few hours later, I opened my eyes in a hospital room.
The first day was difficult.
The second was even harder.
But on the third day, they sent me home.
That
evening, my mom stepped out of the room for a few minutes.
I got up.
Slowly, I walked into the bathroom.
I turned on the light.
And for the first time, I really looked at myself in the mirror.
My heart began pounding.
I moved closer.
Then I stepped back.
My hands started trembling.
By the time my mother walked in, I was already crying.
She hurried toward me.
“What happened?”
I couldn’t take my eyes off my reflection.
And there was only one thing I could manage to say.
“Mom… I think I just made the biggest mistake of my life.”
The continuation of the story is in the comments👇‼️
My mother didn’t say anything for several seconds.
She walked over and stood beside me.
“Look at me,” she said.
I shook my head.
“I can’t.”
At that moment, I didn’t recognize myself.
My face looked so different that
my brain almost seemed unwilling to accept that the person standing in the mirror was me.
“What if I stay like this?” I whispered.
“You won’t.”
“You don’t know that.”
“The doctor explained that the first few days would look exactly like this.”
I sat down on the small chair beside the bathroom wall.
“Maybe I looked better before.”
My mother was silent for a long moment.
Then she took my hand.
“You didn’t make this decision in one day. You thought about it for years. Don’t decide that the entire journey was a mistake because of three difficult days.”
But that night, I didn’t believe her.
I barely slept.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the person from the mirror again.
On the fourth day, I didn’t even want to open the camera on my phone.
But before all of this began, I had made myself one
promise.
I was going to document the entire journey.
Not just the beautiful final result.
So I placed my phone on the table and took a picture of myself exactly as I was.
No carefully chosen angle.
No special lighting.
No smile.
I stared at the photo for several minutes before finally posting it.
