“We were stressed about the wedding.”
“You were never home.”
“I was working overtime to pay for the wedding.”
“I know.”
“Then don’t rewrite it.”
Mark tried again.
“We crossed a line. It got out of control.”
I looked at him.
“No.”
He frowned.
“What?”
“Things don’t get out of control for four months. You make choices for four months.”
His face hardened.
“Carol, you don’t know everything.”
“Then explain it.”
He said nothing.
I placed the hotel charges on the table.
Then the phone records.
Then the photograph from outside the hotel.
Mark stared at the picture.
Jenna covered her mouth.
Daniel added copies of the transfers from their savings account.
Her eyes widened.
“What is this?”
“You tell me.”
She looked down.
Daniel said, “Almost $9,000 moved into your private account.”
“I can explain.”
“I’d love that.”
Jenna began talking quickly. Some money had paid debts she’d concealed from Daniel.
