Father-in-Law Ate His Grandkids’ Halloween Candy in Front of Them – Their Father’s Response Made Him Regret It

“He told Ethan that Grandpa spent two hours walking around for us and we should stop acting spoiled.”

I felt ashamed that I’d stood there without stopping him.

“Did Grandpa know that was your favorite?”

Ethan nodded.

“I told him when we got it. The lady at the blue house gave us each one.”

Owen added, “I told him Ethan really wanted that one.”

“Did you ask for yours back?”

Owen shook his head.

“I didn’t want him to yell at Ethan again.”

That answer bothered me more than the missing chocolate.

The boys had spent weeks planning their costumes. They’d talked about which houses gave out the best treats. Halloween was supposed to be an evening of excitement with their grandparents.

Instead, they had come home feeling guilty for wanting their own candy.

I pulled their chairs closer.

“You didn’t do anything wrong,” I told them. “Grandpa should have asked before taking anything.”
