Everyone mocked when the ruined heir agreed to marry the “ugliest” daughter

Renata felt Sebastian’s hand near hers, not touching her until she intertwined his fingers with his.

Octavius saw that gesture and exploded.

“Your mother also wanted to destroy this family!” he shouted. If I had delivered the notebook, I would still be alive.

The judge looked up.

Are you saying that you knew your wife was in danger?

Octavius understood too late what he had just admitted.

He tried to correct himself, but Mauricio, cornered, revealed the last secret. Dr. Salcedo had replaced Elena’s medicine with a sedative. She fell from the gallery, but didn’t die immediately. Octavio found her breathing and ordered no one to call an ambulance until it was too late.

Renata closed her eyes.

For twelve years she had imagined her mother dying alone. To discover that her own husband was able to save her and chose to observe her was a different wound, deeper than anger.

“Why?” he asked.

Octavius no longer looked like the invincible man who had controlled his life.

Because I was going to report it. I was going to take it all away.

“No,” Renata replied. You had already lost it when you decided that a fortune was worth more than her.

The prosecution executed the arrest warrants before the hearing ended. Octavio was arrested for fraudulent administration, illegal deprivation of liberty, attempted murder and involvement in Elena’s death. Mauritius was charged with forgery, conspiracy and arson. Dr. Salcedo lost his license and faced charges of forced medication and falsification of clinical records.

When they placed the handcuffs on Octavius, he looked at Sebastian.

Everything you have I gave you.

Sebastian slowly denied.

“You offered me money. The only valuable thing I found in this deal was the woman who tried to destroy.

Octavius turned his eyes to Renata, perhaps waiting for fear, hatred or a plea. He didn’t get anything.

She was no longer the girl who trembled to hear her footsteps behind a door.

Months later, Ernesto Alcázar’s name was officially cleaned. The investigation showed that he had made mistakes in keeping silent too long, but not the fraud for which he was destroyed. Sofia went back to college. Grupo Alcázar left the bankruptcy process through a legal plan, without a single weight of Octavio.

Renata received complete control of his heritage and the Summit.

Sebastian, however, made him an unexpected proposal.

“Our marriage began under threat and deception,” he said. You’re free now. If you want to override it, I’m not gonna fight you.

Renata studied it with the same distrust of the first time they met.

Do you want to leave?

“No.

“Then stop deciding for me in the name of my freedom.

Sebastian smiled for the first time in days.

“You’re right.

I have it often.

They were remarried in a private ceremony inside the small chapel that had protected them on the night of the fire. There were no journalists, businessmen or curious guests. Monica took the bouquet. Sofia was a witness. Renata wore a simple, unveiled dress and walked to Sebastian without hearing a single laugh.

This time there was no money, hidden clauses or a father delivering it as merchandise.

Only two people choosing each other with full freedom.

The Guadalajara society didn’t suddenly become kind. Some women continued to watch the Renata stain. Some men continued to comment when they believed she didn’t listen.

The difference was that Renata stopped turning those looks into a judgment about its value.

With part of Elena’s inheritance she created a foundation for women interned or medicated against her will by family members interested in controlling their money. He paid lawyers, independent doctors and temporary shelters.

“Not all have a hidden notebook or someone willing to believe them,” he said during the inauguration. Justice should not depend on luck.

Two years later, her first daughter was born. Renata called her Elena.

One night, on the girl’s birthday, Renata watched her family from the head of a long table in La Cumbre. Monica was arguing with the chef. Sofia told anecdotes about the university. Sebastian was holding the little girl while she was trying to rip her tie.

He came up and placed his hand on the table, near that of Renata, waiting as long as she was the one to decide the contact.

Renata covered his fingers with his own.

“You’re thinking too much,” Sebastian said.

It’s one of my worst flaws.

It’s my favorite part of you.

She smiled.

For years he had been told that his face was a condemnation, that he should thank any crumb of affection and accept silence as a price for not being alone.

But the real monster had never been the woman with a spot on her skin.

He had been the respectable man who was hiding behind a surname, a fortune and the word “family” to justify his cruelty.

Renata didn’t beat because a powerful man rescued her.

She won because she survived, gathered the truth, accepted help without surrendering her will, and finally understood that being loved should never cost her freedom.
