Chapter 3: What They Were Really After
Over the next two weeks, I became the most thorough forensic accountant I have ever been in my life, and the subject of the investigation was my own marriage.
I did three things.
First, the morning after the recording, I went to a clinic across the city — not our usual doctor, who golfed with Julian — and I had my blood drawn and documented, and I told them exactly what I suspected.
Days later, the lab confirmed what I already knew: there was a sedative in my system that I had never been prescribed and never knowingly taken.
I did not ask how they’d gotten it, and I don’t know, and I never wanted to.
I only needed the proof that it was there.
