Chapter 2 – A Young Man Married a 60-Year-Old Woman – 10 Days Later, She Discovered Something Unexpected – Thebustednews

When he finished, Margaret sat quietly.

Then she asked:

“Are you angry with your father?”

Daniel thought about it.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because I understand him now.”

Margaret smiled.

“He wanted to protect you.”

“I think so.”

“He probably thought children shouldn’t have to carry adult problems.”

Daniel nodded.

“He was wrong about some things.”

Margaret laughed.

“Most parents are.”

Daniel smiled.

Then he became serious.

“I think I spent years believing that the best way to love someone was to protect them from difficult truths.”

Margaret looked at him.

“And now?”

“Now I think sometimes love means trusting someone enough to tell them the truth.”

Margaret nodded.

“That sounds like a lesson worth learning.”

The Gossip Didn’t Stop

Their private discovery didn’t change the outside world.

People still talked.

Some neighbors continued to stare.

Someone at the grocery store whispered about Daniel marrying an older woman.

A distant relative asked Margaret whether she was sure Daniel wasn’t interested in her money.

Another person joked that Daniel must have “found the easiest retirement plan in town.”

Margaret tried to ignore it.

Daniel sometimes couldn’t.

One afternoon, they were walking through town when they heard two women talking behind them.

“Thirty-two years,” one whispered.

“I know.”

“It’s strange.”

Daniel stopped.

Margaret touched his arm.

“Don’t.”

He turned.

“They don’t know us.”

“I know.”

“They don’t know anything.”

“I know.”

“Then why does it still bother you?”

Margaret looked at him.

“Because we’re human.”

Daniel laughed.

She continued walking.

“You can’t stop people from making assumptions.”

“So what do we do?”

“We live.”

Their Marriage Became Their Answer

Their Unusual Marriage Surprised Everyone But What Happened 10 Days Later Was Even More Unexpected

They decided not to defend themselves to everyone.

They didn’t issue explanations.

They didn’t tell strangers about the photograph.

They didn’t tell people about Daniel’s father.

They didn’t reveal the private details of their relationship simply to satisfy curiosity.

Instead, they built a life.

A quiet one.

They cooked.

They traveled when they could.

They visited friends.

They argued.

They apologized.

They learned each other’s habits.

Daniel discovered that Margaret hated loud restaurants.

Margaret discovered that Daniel always forgot where he put his keys.

Daniel learned that Margaret cried during sentimental movies.

Margaret learned that Daniel pretended not to like desserts but always stole the last piece.

Their marriage became ordinary.

And perhaps that was the greatest victory.

The First Real Argument

Several months later, they had their first serious argument.
