A Woman’s MIL Hadn’t Moved or Spoken Since Her Car Crash – When Her 7-Year-Old Said, ‘Grandma Talks and Walks When You’re Gone,’ She Installed a Camera and Broke Down Crying

Diane knew about the box.

I hadn’t thought about that conversation in years.

Until Ben brought up the box over dinner.

“Grandma said your blue box is heavy.”

I stopped cutting his chicken.

“What blue box?”

“Grandma said your blue box is heavy.”

“The one in your closet.”

My fork remained halfway to the plate.

“How do you know about that?”

“Grandma told me.”

I put down the knife.

“Ben, Grandma can’t talk.”

“Grandma told me.”

He frowned.

“Yes, she can.”

I glanced toward the hallway.

Diane was in her room.

Nathan was outside, cleaning the garage.

“What did she say?” I pressed.

Diane was in her room.

“She told me to get your blue box when you weren’t home and Dad was in the garage.”

I looked toward Diane’s room.

“She told you that?”

Ben nodded.

Then his eyes widened.

“Oops.”

“What?”

“Grandma said it was our secret.”

“She told you that?”
