Claire’s eyes filled with tears. “We have a daughter now. We need stability.”
“So do I.”
“You’d really do this to family?”
I looked at her. “I carried your daughter because I loved you both. Don’t use her to make me feel guilty for protecting myself.”
That’s negotiable!
Ethan pointed at my folder. “What are you threatening us with?”
“My lawyer has copies of your messages. She’s prepared to pursue a civil claim if necessary.”
“You think you’ll win?”
“I’m prepared to fight.”
“Over money?”
We need stability.
“Over a promise that convinced me to carry your child.”
He shook his head. “You’ve changed.”
“Yes.”
“You used to trust me.”
“And you used that trust.” I stood and opened the door. “My apartment isn’t for sale. Any further financial discussions go through our lawyers.”
She’s prepared to pursue a civil claim.
Ethan stopped beside me. “Mom will be devastated.”
“Then tell her the truth.”
