Vanessa faced the guests. “I canceled the rentals because I’m done financing this performance.”
“Wait,” I interrupted. “Why did you cancel everything right before his party?”
Vanessa smiled. “Because Richard insisted on throwing another expensive party with my money. I decided he could impress his guests without it.”
Stop pretending your business pays for everything.
“She’s exaggerating!”
“I have the contracts and bank statements.”
A guest whispered, “So the sofa wasn’t even his?”
Richard pointed at me.
“She put you up to this!”
“Actually, yes, I did,” I replied. “I was tired of your insults and watching you get away with everything.”
I’m done financing this performance.
“And I was tired of paying for your lies,” Vanessa added. “Nobody forced me to tell the truth.”
I met his eyes. “You laughed because I couldn’t afford a new car. Apparently, you couldn’t even afford your own furniture.”
Richard fell silent.
Vanessa took a breath. “There’s something else everyone should know.”
