“What are you going to do? Make me close my legs?”
My face was hot. I’d told her to stay, and now she was looking at me.
“Please stay. You sit right there.”
I couldn’t make him move, but I couldn’t ask her to get up after that.
Then the train jolted to a stop, and the doors slid open.
The woman on his other side got off.
A huge man in a canvas work jacket boarded and took the vacated seat without a word.
The bully’s knees snapped together before the man had finished sitting down.
I couldn’t make him move
I looked at the elderly woman.
She’d noticed too; she straightened her legs a little, reclaiming the space he’d finally given her.
I took out my phone and started recording, holding it low against my book.
He sat neatly beside the man in the work jacket for two stops.
