A 101-year-old man was taken to court for stealing over $2,000 worth of items

Four lists, four months, four sets of capitals — and the shop has been calling it theft since the March.

ITEM 3. THE RECEIPTS.

This is the part that took me longest and it is the part the court never saw.

He has a tin in that kitchen with his receipts in it. He has kept them since his wife went in 2014, because she did it and he carried on.

I went through the whole tin in the April.

From the January of 2026 to the March there are receipts from Rossiter’s roughly twice a week, which is what you would expect.

From the twelfth of March there are none.

Not fewer. None at all, in four months, from a man who was in that shop twice a week.

He did not stop paying because he decided to stop paying.

He stopped being able to hold on to the part in the middle — the till, the card, the number — and what is left either side of it is: I went to the shop, and I came home with the shopping.
