A DOCTOR CLOSED THE DOOR AND ASKED IF SHE KNEW WHAT THE SYMBOL MEANT. SHE HAD KEPT ITS SECRET FOR FIFTY YEARS.
PART 1
For my entire life, I believed the tiny blue flower tattooed on my mother’s wrist was nothing more than an old tattoo from her youth.
Then a hospital nurse noticed it — and immediately walked out to contact security.
My name is Grace, and Mom had carried that little blue flower for as long as I could remember.
It sat quietly on the inside of her wrist.
Small. Faded. Completely ordinary.
At least, that was what I had always assumed.
When I was young, I occasionally asked her about it.
“What does your flower mean?”
Her answer never changed.
“I got it when I was young.”
That was all she ever said.
No funny story about getting a tattoo with friends.
No explanation of why she chose a flower.
